Petyr Cirino was born two and a half months early on July 13, 1995 in Arizona. The doctors said that there was a 70 percent chance that he would grow up with some sort of disability. However, after 45 days in the NICU he was released from the hospital and he is now healthy and living in San Diego.
Petyr started experimenting with photography at 11 years old. Petyr says, “I first started taking pictures because of my sister… she always wanted me to take pictures of her with her camera. And when I was doing that, it just seemed like something I was supposed to be doing. It felt right.” Now two years and nine cameras later his photography has transitioned from taking pictures of his sister to primarily abstract photography. Everything in his photos is done in his little digital camera and nothing has ever been created in Photoshop.
His method of creating pictures is unconventional. He uses anything and everything he can find and he, in his words, “Petyr-fies” it by deconstructing kaleidoscopes, different lenses, pieces of glass, toys, mirrors and anything else he can find, and with a lot of tape (usually two whole rolls) he creates new and unique filters to shoot through. He has hundreds of these things, and more, and he always complains that he doesn’t have enough.
Petyr has had multiple shows between California and Arizona. And with some of the money he made from his sales he bought a professional photographer’s camera bag and vest. Both of which are now solely dedicated to his Petyr-fied items and his tape.
Petyr prints select images using the giclee process on stretched canvas. If you would like more information about Petyr’s work, please contact us.
